For More Information

There are plenty of web helps when it comes to soy allergies.  My best suggestion is to go to Google or another search engine and type in "soy products" or "soy allergies" and read through the sites available (Canadian sites tend to be the most current and helpful in my research thus far.).  New sites are added daily, and information is updated constantly.  I will try to modify this data when I can, but even I cannot keep up with all the new information all the time.  I will list a few sites here that I have already found that were of a great help to me:

1. McDonald's Allergen Information page: http://www.mcdonalds.com/usa/eat/nutrition_info/nutrition_lists/allergens.html

2. Burger King's Website (has a link to their allergen information page): http://www.bk.com/

3. KFC's Allergen Information page: http://www.yum.com/nutrition/allergen/allergen_kfc.asp

4. Wendy's Allergen and Nutrition Information pages: http://wendys.com/food/pdf/us/allergen_list.pdf and http://wendys.com/food/pdf/us/nutrition.pdf

5. Arby's Allergen Information page: http://arbys.com/nutrition/Arbys_US_Nutrition.pdf

6.  Soy Information for kids (This information is helpful for adults, too, but was designed for the parents of children with soy allergies.): http://www.sickkids.ca/SFSNutritionResources/section.asp?s=Food+Allergies+%26+Intolerances&sID=14690&ss=Soy+Allergy&ssID=14773

7. Living with a Soy Allergy: http://www.webmd.com/content/article/61/67476.htm

8. Soy-Free Diet: http://www.netrition.com/cgi/healthnotes.cgi?ContentID=1299000

9. Soy Allergy Information: http://www.adrenalfatigue.org/soy.php

10. Soy Aliases (VERY good list of alternative names for soy): http://www.geocities.com/HotSprings/4620/decoder.htm

11. Soy/MSG Allergy Information: http://www.dining.iastate.edu/nutrition/food_allergy.php

Most of the sites I have listed are set to the pages that gave me alternative names for soy or a list of soy products, or (in the case of the restaurants) to a page containing the allergen information in food.  There is a lot more information out there, including on these sites.  I will add more to the list as I find good sites.

I would also like to take a moment to encourage you to write a note to the FDA, local restaurants, and/or any other manufacturers you can think of about being clearer with their labels.  I found it very disturbing that so many companies do not label their products carefully enough or in a misleading fashion when it comes to soy allergens.  Perhaps if we could get our voice heard, they would start paying more attention.  Allergies of any sort are nothing to mess with, and I am sure that no company wants a lawsuit on its hands for mislabeling products or for giving out misleading information.  They are just one serious allergic reaction away from getting sued, and they need to know that.  I am planning on writing some letters myself, and when I do, I will list the names and email addresses of the companies here, so that you can send a message along, too, if you so desire.  Let's help make this world safer for those who suffer from soy allergies!

I hope that this information has been of help to you.  Living with a soy allergy can be difficult, but it is not impossible!  If you would like, you can contact me at any time.
